Meta Tag Refresh - SEO Checklist

Last updated on April 11th, 2023 by A1 True Jobs

How to use Meta Refresh Tag on your website? By using this tag you can define after how long a page has to be refreshed or after a certain period of seconds you want your visitor to be redirected to another webpage. Search engines usually don't like it when you use refresh pages. A better solution is to add a clickable link.

It can negatively influence your ranking by using this tag the wrong way!

An example of a refresh value is:

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="value">

This refresh-tag will redirect you to another webpage automatically.

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="30; ,URL=https://www.a1truejobs.com/talent/login.php">

"30" means in how many seconds you are redirected to another page and the new page is shown. You can use it e.g. for the following. Every year you organize a big event. The registration page of this event is removed each year and you add a new registration page for the next year.

An example of meta tag HTTP-EQUIV REFRESH

Whenever page number 1 isn't active anymore you replace it with a new page adding the text 2011 closed, but register yourself now for 2012. Now you add a refresh tag so your visitor will be redirected immediately to the next page.

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10; ,URL=https://www.a1truejobs.com/talent/sign-up.php">

"10" is the number of seconds it takes to go from the redirection page to the new page.

NOTE: many people don't like these browser influences. They want to decide for themselves on which button they click and find the 'redirection' annoying. So be careful using these influence methods. Sometimes adding a clickable link is a better solution.

Where should you add the other meta tags?

You may add a normal meta tag like description and keywords tag to all of your webpages, so not only in the first index page. Make sure that on every page relevant meta tags are added. Add keywords and phrases that are relevant and correspond to the text and the language on that specific page. It might be a lot of work to add specific meta tags to each page but you will notice in time that it works!
